Bobi, the World's Oldest Dog Ever

Bobi, the oldest dog in history, passed away on Monday, according to Guinness World Records (GWR), after reaching the nearly unfathomable age of 31 years and 165 days.

Veterinarian Dr. Karen Becker made the initial announcement of his passing at an animal hospital on Friday.

Despite outliving every dog in history, she wrote on Facebook, "his 11,478 days on earth would never be enough, for those who loved him.

Bobby, a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo dog, lived to be 31 years and 165 days, making him the longest living dog ever recorded. He lived his entire life with his loving family in the Portuguese village of Conqueiros, where he was a beloved member of the community. 

Bobby's longevity is a testament to the love and care he received from his family and the healthy lifestyle he enjoyed. He was never chained or chained, and he ate human food, which his family believed contributed to his longevity. 

In February 2023, Bobby was officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's oldest living dog. His achievements were celebrated by people around the world, and Bobby became a symbol of hope and resilience. 

Sadly, Bobby passed away on October 24, 2023 at the age of 31. His passing is a loss to his family and the world, but his legacy will live on. Bobby's story reminds us that dogs are more than pets; They are sweet companions and bring joy to our lives.

Why is the longevity of the poppy so amazing?

 Dogs typically live 10 to 13 years, so Poppy's lifespan is more than twice that. Several factors may have contributed to Bobby's longevity. 

Genetics: Bobby comes from a breed of dog known for its longevity. The lifespan of a Rafeiro do Alentejo dog is usually between 12 and 14 years. 

Diet: Bobby ate human food, which his family believed contributed to his longevity. Human food tends to be more nutritious than commercial dog food and can provide dogs with a wider range of essential nutrients. 

Lifestyle: Bobi leads a healthy, active lifestyle. He was never chained or chained and had plenty of room to run and play. All dogs need to exercise, but elderly dogs need it more than younger canines.

According to Bobi's owner, he was a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, a canine variety used to guard livestock. The American Kennel Club estimates that Rafeiro do Alentejos have a life expectancy of 12 to 14 years.

However, Bobi outlived that life expectancy by more than two decades, shattering a record that had stood for almost a century. Bluey, an Australian cattle dog that was born in 1910 and lived to be 29 years and five months old, had previously held the record for the oldest dog ever and the oldest dog surviving.

But Bobi's tale nearly had a different conclusion.

After deciding that the family already had too many animals at home, Costa's father had him and his three siblings born in the woodshed.

Costa and his siblings believed that all of the puppies had been taken away by their parents to be destroyed. But a few heartbreaking days later, they discovered Bobi still alive and secure in a stack of logs.

After the kids kept the puppy hidden from their parents, Bobi lived a record-breaking life until his existence was discovered, at which point he was too old to be put down.

GWR reported that a performing dance group and more than 100 guests attended his 31st birthday party in May.

As Bobi aged, his eyesight deteriorated and walking got more difficult, but he continued to spend time in the backyard with the cats, take more breaks, and take naps by the fire.
